4 UX Designers, 1 Product Manager
3 Weeks
Strategy and planning become extremely important in a larger design team, and especially when there are 5 platforms to design.
What’s most important is to build a strategy to approach the topic, include everyone in the early stage and discuss the best way to proceed together.
The timeline was mapped out nicely, and the project scope, feature tree and user stories were clearly communicated within the team. The tasks were allocated nicely in a way that we get to work alone but also able to jam together.
Due to the tight timeline and huge topic we need to tackle, we have 4 designers plus 1 project manager assisting on the side. We thought it might be a hindrance having many people in a team, but it turned out to be the key to the success.
We established rituals, such as daily design review and stand-ups, twice a day to keep everything aligned and to provide a space for everyone to voice opinions.
Additionally, having multiple designers working together, we were inspired by each others’ great ideas, that’s what I found very valuable and efficient.
In a remote working environment, we learned to make good use of several tools to achieve an efficient workflow.
We use Miro for planning strategies, updating To-do lists, taking notes, and creating feature tree and user flows. Miro has become an essential tool and a process in our day to day work.
Figma is a powerful tool for building design system that enabled us to make the product consistent across all platforms. It not only saves time while designing, but also helps internal knowledge exchange. With figma, we were able to create a design system that is fluid and adaptable to our needs.
I enjoyed so much about working closely with team members, and the feeling of collaboration was very fulfilling, especially after being so distant with everyone due to the pandemic.
Through this project, I also learned how to structure things better, and facilitate constructive conversation within the team.
Most valuable gain of the project is that I know the kind of team collaboration, members, the vibe I like. Being a mere executor moving pixels helps bring the product to life, but only being a design strategist and an open-minded communicator can move things quickly and create impacts.
